
All proceeds from the Solmene Garden were returned to the local community, highlighting the students’ heartfelt spirit of giving. The project was fully student-led, covering the entire process from crop cultivation to sales as part of an educational initiative.
A total of 59 students, from Pre-DP to DP2, participated, improving teamwork and strengthening their understanding of basic economic concepts. The activity showed how small learning experiences can grow into meaningful contributions to the wider community.

IB students at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages in Uiwang City put “learning expanded through social contribution” into practice by donating the profits from a student-run garden project that made use of an open space on campus.
Since 2023, the school’s International Department has operated the “Solmene Garden (Soilmate)” project in connection with CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), a core component of the IB Diploma Programme (DP). The name “Soilmate” is a combination of “soil” and “soulmate,” reflecting the project’s purpose of encouraging students to experience and reflect on the value of nature and life through cultivating crops.
